Campus Carnival 08/22/2022

The 2022-2023 academic year at Trine University is off to a fantastic start! Our presidents Kennedy Jester & Areeba Kazi were able to connect with the community at the Campus Carnival hosted in the UC on the first day of classes, learning what students were looking for in a sustainability program & how we can bring their ideas to life! Our organization was also thrilled to partner with the Steuben County Water & Soil Conservation District, who came prepared with their panel display about the importance of watersheds, or areas of land that drain precipitation into a particular body of water. We cannot wait to partner with them again this year, as well as get started with events of our own!

If you would like to learn more about the unique geography of Steuben County and the importance of watersheds, you can view all eight of their panels HERE:

Awe and Wonder: A Keynote Speech by Dr. Kelly Trusty

On the last weekend of April, we as an organization hosted an event on campus entitled Earth Fest. The purpose of this event was not only to increase community awareness of SPEAK’s projects, but also to promote environmental education, sustainability, and ethical consumerism. At this festival, which hosted a local vendor fair, food trucks, and a karaoke station, Dr. Kelly Trusty from Trine University acted as one of two of our keynote speakers. Dr. Trusty is a business professor at Trine University specializing in nonprofit management, as well as a board member of the organization Friends of Pokagon. In this speech, she discusses how nature’s greatest gift to us is awe and wonder, then how we as humans can work to protect this gift.
